What to Consider

Is your garage overflowing with holiday decorations? Do you wish you could park your car in there too? Or are you looking for a detached woodworking shop? Backyard storage sheds make it all possible. Here’s what to consider before buying one:

Style

We offer 4 styles of sheds: barn, modern, gable, and ranch. The style you select mainly comes down to your aesthetic preference, with a few functionalities to consider.

Gambrel sheds offer a more country look with the gambrel-style roof that allows you to take full advantage of the overhead space inside.

Modern sheds are built with clean and angular roof lines. The transom windows above the door and the windows on each side let in plenty of natural light, making this ideal for alternative use.

Size

Each of our shed styles comes in several different sizes. When selecting a size, consider what you’re going to be storing so you can determine how much overhead, floor, and wall space you’ll need. If you’re storing large equipment like bikes and a lawnmower, you’ll need more floor space. If you’re storing long-handled tools, you may need more wall space. Always plan on a bigger size than you think you need.

Permits

Before purchasing a shed, check with your local municipality and/or homeowners association to determine what permits and requirements are needed. Shed Liquidators is not responsible for zoning compliance.

Prepping Your Yard

When deciding where to put your shed, make sure you decide on a spot that is in a high area of your yard, allows for 3 ft. of clearance on all sides, and is level. If your ground is not level, read our guide on how to easily prepare your yard for a level shed. Also, be sure to consider a spot in your yard that lets in the most sunlight.

Regardless of installation type, you will need to caulk the joints and paint your shed to protect it from water. This should be done within 30 days of installing your shed. The good news is all our sheds come pre-primed and ready for painting.

Professional Installation (Sold Separately)

Our storage sheds are available with professional installation for your convenience. Once your order is received, we’ll contact you within a few days to schedule the installation, typically 4-8 weeks from your order date. On the scheduled day, the installer will arrive with your shed and all the tools needed to complete the build. Most shed installations take a full day, and once finished, the installer will walk you through the completed outdoor shed. If you have any questions or concerns about the process, feel free to discuss them with your installer.

FAQs About Large Sheds

Permit requirements vary by location. Many areas require a permit for structures over a certain size, often around 120-200 sq. ft. We always recommend checking with your local municipality and homeowner's association (HOA) before purchasing to ensure you comply with all regulations.

Sizes like 12-ft x 16-ft and 12-ft x 20-ft are incredibly popular because they offer a generous amount of space without completely taking over your backyard. These sizes provide plenty of room for both large equipment and workspace, making them a versatile choice for many homeowners.

Generally, you'll need to leave some clearance around your shed for maintenance and to comply with local building codes, typically about three feet on all sides. It's best to check your local zoning laws for specific setback requirements from property lines and your house.

Absolutely. Our large wooden sheds are constructed with high-quality materials engineered to withstand the elements, just like your house. They are backed by a 10-year warranty, giving you peace of mind that your investment is protected.

What Counts as a Large Shed?

A large shed is typically any outdoor storage building that offers significant square footage, usually starting around 120 sq. ft. and going up from there. Here’s one way of looking at it: If you can park a riding mower in it and still have room to walk around, you’re in large-shed territory.

Our collection includes spacious options that provide ample room for large equipment, extensive tool collections, or even a dedicated hobby space. Many of our most popular models are in the 200 sq. ft. shed range, giving you all the space you need.

Why Choose a Large Shed?

Going big with your shed comes with some serious perks:

 • Versatile Space: A large shed can be an extension to your home. Use it as a workshop, hobby room, she-shed, man cave, or simply to keep all your gear organized.
 • Cost-Effective: Our factory-direct pricing means you get more square footage for your investment.
 • Durable Construction: Every shed is made in the USA and backed by a 10-year warranty, offering reliable quality and peace of mind.
 • Smart Investment: A spacious shed adds long-term value and flexibility to your outdoor space.
