Shed Buying Guide

Shed size
When choosing the size of your new shed it’s important to consider several factors: floor space, overhead and wall hanging space, walk-around space, and workspace (if needed).

Yard Location
When deciding where to put your shed, make sure you decide on a spot that is in a high area of your yard, allows for 3 ft. of clearance on all sides, and is level. If your ground is not level, read our guide on how to easily prepare your yard for a level shed. Also, be sure to consider a spot in your yard that lets in the most sunlight.

Homeowner’s Association/Permits
Check with your HOA or local municipality to ensure your shed meets any restrictions on building sizes, siding, roof type, and foundations. Shed Liquidators is not responsible for obtaining permits.

Maintenance

Our sheds are manufactured with the utmost care to ensure every structure meets our engineering standards. Like your home, your new shed will require occasional maintenance to ensure many years of use. In addition to re-painting your shed as needed, you must perform other maintenance:

  • Once your shed is built, be sure to caulk all joints.
  • Keep all grass and other plants trimmed around the perimeter of the shed.
  • Do not mound soil or mulch against the siding.
  • Do not stack anything against the exterior of your building, such as firewood.
  • Locking doorknobs or levers should be sprayed with silicone or another lubricant to maintain the locking mechanism and prevent freezing in cold climates.
  • We do not recommend insulating or heating your building without proper ventilation.
  • Do not let sprinklers spray your building.

Poor foundation under shed.

"In some spots, only small pieces of wood were used to provide foundation support. Even thin pieces if roofing tile were used in precarious unstable locations. Photos were sent, an the issue was discussed with your management. You then told me on 3 different occations, that someone would be out to resolve my issue. This never happened."

Great value

"This is a nice shed for the money. The doors are a little weak and wrapped a little since we purchased the shed but I will reinforce them this summer. All in all the crew was quick and did a fine job assembling the shed it is a fine addition to our home."

Fair price but you get what you pay for.

"Overall, we are satisfied with the shed. However, if you are expecting an extremely sturdy shed that will last for years, this is probably not the shed for you. Aside from the floor (we upgraded to the reinforced floor), the rest of the wood is particle board. Within a week after delivery and assembly, the doors did not close properly and I had to take them off, re-drill the screw holes and re-install the doors. The interior shelves are narrow. If I had to do it again, I would purchase my own materials and install my own shelving."

Not the best quality for the money

"Shed is now 2 years old. In the short two years, I've had to refit the doors due to warping and no longer fit together as well as fix several areas that have leaked. I'm guessing this shed will only last a couple more years before I have to replace it."

Excellent Product and Even Better Service!

"The ordering and scheduling process could not have been any easier. I have a fairly strict HOA and was provided the necessary information quickly and without trouble. When it was time to install, the gentleman installing couldn't have been nicer. He quickly and efficiently began the install and when one of his tools stopped working, he told me that he would be driving back down to Tucson (from Phoenix) first thing Monday to finish the job. And there wasn't any additional travel charge or fee for him to make the trip! We've gotten numerous compliments on the quality of the shed and have been so happy with the end result! We given out the contact info for lumber liquidators numerous times and will definitely continue to recommend!"

10x10 Gabel Shed Review

"I ordered the 10x10 Gabel shed a couple years ago as extra storage for sporting equipment and bicycles. I took the time to prepare the shed's site site ahead of installation, outlining the perimeter with 12 foot beams, leveling the bed, putting down a weed liner and filling the area with crushed stone. The contractor who assembled and installed the shed was professional, courteous, timely and efficient. We painted the shed to match the same blue with white trim that our model is shown with in the catalog and it looks awesome. The shed has endured two NJ winters and seems to be holding up fine."

Love it!!

"This shed was exactly what we needed, it fits perfect in the corner of the backyard, the installation and installer were awesome, painless and done in one day. So far it is a quality shed and I expect it to be here for a long time. I would recommend your sheds to anyone looking, and I will."

Frequently Asked Questions

Our sheds come with pre-cut lumber pieces ready to assemble on-site by our professional installers. Each shed has a base shed kit, a floor system, fasteners, runners, shingles, and door hardware. Some models come with extras like shelves, a storage loft, a threshold, or vents.

Before installation, choose a build site with a 3-foot clearance on all four sides and above. The site must be free from trees, shrubs, limbs, or other debris. The site also needs to be level within 6 inches. Your installer will level up to 6 inches at no additional charge. If your site is out of level by 6 inches but is under 18 inches, we offer a leveling package for an additional charge. You’ll need to provide access to electricity within 150 feet of the unit, as well as 3-foot minimum unobstructed access for installers to carry your materials to the building site, or additional charges will apply. Keep pets inside or on a leash away from the installation area.

All our sheds come with a 10-year limited material warranty, with some materials extending beyond 10 years. Standard shingles have a 25-year limited warranty. Architectural/dimensional shingles have a limited lifetime warranty. Louisiana Pacific® SmartSide® siding and trim has a 50-year limited material warranty. Professional installation comes with a 1-year labor warranty.

Unless you live in an area where professional contractors are required to pull the permits, customers can pull their own building permits. We can provide the drawings to assist with this. If you would like us to pull the permit for you, we offer a permit package that covers the procurement of the permits. Every municipality has different permit requirements and fees, so once we receive your order, our local warehouse will reach out to you to get the necessary documentation (I.e., plot plan, seismic testing, etc.). Depending on the permit cost or required documentation, additional fees will vary by municipality.

Our sheds come with pre-cut pieces ready to assemble on-site. This means your shed gets delivered and installed without removing a fence or creating a large clearance to get to the build site. The shed will come factory-primed and ready for you to paint.

If your shed is built on 4x4 runners (aka skids), it can be loaded onto a flatbed truck and transported to another location. We recommend using a towing or barn moving service to do this. The shed should be empty before moving. Additional supports or bracing may be needed inside the building before transporting.  Check local zoning ordinances for transportation due to width and height restrictions.
